Engro Powergen Qadirpur Signs Agreement to Add Badar-1 Gas to Fuel Mix
August 18, 2025
Engro Powergen Qadirpur Limited (PSX: EPQL), a subsidiary of Engro Energy Limited, has executed a supplemental agreement to its Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the Central Power Purchasing Agency (Guarantee) Limited (CPPA-G).
According to a notice issued to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), the agreement allows gas from the Badar-1 gas field, supplied by Petroleum Exploration Limited (PEL), to be incorporated into EPQL’s existing fuel mix.
The company highlighted that the supplemental agreement remains subject to regulatory approvals, and the utilisation of Badar-1 gas will commence only once all required consents are obtained.
EPQL had previously signed a Gas Supply Agreement (GSA) with PEL in August 2024, but implementation was contingent on approval from relevant authorities.
Engro Powergen Qadirpur operates as an Independent Power Producer (IPP) with a 217 MW permeate gas-based combined cycle plant located in Qadirpur, Ghotki. The facility is configured on a 1+1+1 setup consisting of one gas turbine, one heat recovery steam generator (HRSG), and one steam turbine.
The inclusion of Badar-1 gas into EPQL’s fuel supply is expected to enhance the plant’s fuel flexibility, ensuring more reliable generation capacity amid Pakistan’s evolving energy landscape.
