Fertilizer Demand Soars 53% in August 2025

Fertilizer usage across Pakistan witnessed a sharp upswing in August 2025, with total nutrient offtake climbing 53.4% year-on-year, as per data released by the National Fertilizer Development Centre (NFDC). The strong growth underscores sustained demand from the agriculture sector during the current Kharif season.

Key August Figures

  • Urea: 817,000 tonnes (+46.2% YoY)
  • DAP: 136,000 tonnes (+53.2% YoY)
  • Nitrogen: 440,000 tonnes (+50.7% YoY)
  • Phosphate: 86,000 tonnes (+69.3% YoY)
  • Potash: 5,000 tonnes (+49.3% YoY)
  • Overall nutrients: 531,000 tonnes (+53.4% YoY)

Kharif 2025 (April–August) Performance

Total nutrient consumption during the first four months of Kharif reached 1.6 million tonnes, up 15.9% compared to the same period last year.

  • Urea demand: 2.67m tonnes (+12.4%)
  • DAP: 552,000 tonnes (+8.7%)
  • Nitrogen: 1.51m tonnes (+13.8%)
  • Phosphate: 86,000 tonnes (+69.3%)
  • Potash: 5,000 tonnes (+49.3%)

Domestic Production Snapshot – August 2025

Pakistan’s fertilizer production totaled 835,000 tonnes last month.

  • Urea: 597,000 tonnes (72% share)
  • NP: 80,000 tonnes
  • CAN: 71,000 tonnes
  • DAP: 77,000 tonnes
  • SSP: 6,300 tonnes
  • SOP: 3,500 tonnes

DAP imports stood at 50,000 tonnes, while SOP imports were recorded at 6,000 tonnes.

Regional Breakdown – August 2025

  • Punjab: Urea +49.8%, DAP +39%
  • Sindh: Urea +51%, DAP +119%
  • Balochistan: Urea +21%, DAP +96%
  • KP: Urea +1%, DAP -7.6%

Availability & Prices

NFDC estimates that supplies will comfortably cover demand for the remainder of the Kharif season:

  • Urea supply: 4.27m tonnes vs demand of 3.17m tonnes
  • DAP supply: 1.02m tonnes vs demand of 703,000 tonnes

  • Urea (Other): Rs. 4,254/bag (-1.2%)
  • DAP: Rs. 13,508/bag (+3.7%)
  • NP: Rs. 8,458/bag (+4.1%)
  • SSP: Rs. 3,149/bag (+2.1%)
  • CAN: Rs. 4,040/bag (-0.9%)
  • SOP: Rs. 12,369/bag (+1.1%)
  • NPK: Rs. 9,108/bag (+0.9%)

Outlook

With adequate domestic production and imports, fertilizer availability remains well above projected needs. Stable supply conditions are expected for the rest of the Kharif season, though regional variations in consumption—particularly in DAP usage—will require close monitoring.
