US Imposes 50% Tariff on Indian Goods under Executive Order 14329

August 26, 2025 (MLN): The United States has announced steep tariff hikes on imports from India, raising the total duty to 50% effective from August 27, 2025.

The decision follows Executive Order 14329, which mandates federal agencies to act against what Washington describes as threats linked to Russia.

According to the Department of Homeland Security’s draft notice, the tariff increase will specifically target Indian goods, reinforcing the administration’s broader trade and security strategy.

“The duties described in the annex to this notice will apply to goods from India entered for consumption, or withdrawn from warehouses for consumption, on or after August 27, 2025, at 12:01 a.m. EDT,” the notice confirmed.

The move marks a sharp escalation in US-India trade relations, with possible ripple effects across global supply chains.
