ISLAMABAD: The Petroleum Division (PD) has raised concerns over reduced RLNG consumption by power plants, which has led to critical pressure levels in the SNGPL system. Against a committed demand of 600 MMCFD for July, average off-take has dropped to 501 MMCFD, with just 300 MMCFD recorded on July 17. This oversupply threatens terminal operations and may lead to financial penalties.
SNGPL warns that continued low consumption could force curtailment from local gas fields. The Power Division, however, cites adherence to the Economic Merit Order (EMO), which favors cheaper power sources. Minister Sardar Awais Leghari urged a review of LNG contracts, while PD stresses the need to rationalize tariffs and resolve circular debt to safeguard energy stability.
