Pakistan Posts $245m Current Account Deficit in August
Pakistan’s current account deficit stood at $245 million in August 2025, narrowing by 36% month-on-month (MoM) from July’s deficit of $379 million, according to data released today.
On a yearly basis, however, the deficit widened significantly from $82 million in August 2024, reflecting a 198% year-on-year (YoY) increase amid continued external sector challenges.
Cumulatively, the deficit for FY26 (July–August) reached $624 million, up 45% compared to $430 million in the same period last year.
The MoM decline points to some relief in external outflows, but the YoY deterioration underscores ongoing pressure on Pakistan’s balance of payments.
