The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has extended the deadline for filing Income Tax Returns for Tax Year 2025 to October 31, 2025, providing additional time for taxpayers across the country to complete their submissions.
According to Circular No. 5 of 2025-26 IR-Operations (Income Tax), the extension was announced in response to multiple requests from trade bodies and tax bar associations urging the FBR to allow more time for compliance.
Earlier, the deadline had been set for September 30, 2025, and was subsequently extended to October 15, 2025, through Circular No. 4 of 2025-26 IR-Operations dated September 30. The latest extension grants taxpayers an additional two weeks to file their returns without penalty.
The notification, issued under the powers conferred by Section 214A of the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001, was signed by Ms. Sadaf Ihsan, Second Secretary IR-Operations, on October 15, 2025, officially confirming the new deadline.
The FBR emphasized that this decision aims to facilitate taxpayers and ensure greater compliance amid operational challenges and increased filing volume. Taxpayers are encouraged to make use of this extended period to accurately complete and submit their returns before the new deadline to avoid late filing penalties.
The move is expected to bring relief to individuals, businesses, and tax consultants, providing sufficient time to reconcile records and finalize documentation for Tax Year 2025.
