September 22, 2025 |
The KSE-100 Index closed at 157,555, down 483 points, after a volatile trading session that saw the benchmark touch an intraday high of 158,850 and a low of 157,246.
Total market participation remained strong, with 832.8 million shares traded at a value of PKR 43.8 billion.
Major draggers on the index included UBL (-2.5%, -267 points), Engro (-1.7%, -132 points), Meezan Bank (-1.5%, -94 points), FFC (-2.9%, -84 points), and Lucky Cement (-1.2%, -83 points). On the volumes front, K-Electric (170 million shares) and Cnergyico (167 million shares) led activity.
Sector-wise, buying interest was notable in OMCs, E&Ps, and Power, while sentiment remained mixed in Cement and Pharmaceuticals. Profit-taking, however, weighed on Fertilizers and Banks.
Market outlook stays broadly bullish, supported by expectations of an upcoming PKR 1.2 trillion disbursement plan to address circular debt. Analysts recommend focusing on fundamentally strong sectors—including E&Ps, OMCs, Fertilizers, and Banks—which continue to offer attractive dividend yields and growth potential despite short-term fluctuations.
