Overseas Pakistanis Send $38.5 Billion in Remittances, Boosting Economy and Global Prestige

KARACHI, September 22, 2025:

Pakistan’s overseas diaspora has sent a record $38.5 billion in remittances, providing vital support to the country’s economy while enhancing its global image.

Speaking at a gathering of expatriates in London, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif lauded the contributions of Overseas Pakistanis, calling them “ambassadors of the nation” whose hard work abroad continues to uplift Pakistan’s reputation worldwide.

“Their remittances have been critical in stabilizing Pakistan’s finances and sustaining economic growth,” the Prime Minister noted. He praised expatriates’ honesty, dedication, and achievements in various fields, including medicine, engineering, business, and labor, emphasizing how they have raised Pakistan’s honor on the global stage.

Shehbaz Sharif also highlighted recent national achievements, including the May 10 air defense operation, describing it as a “great victory” and crediting the success to Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, along with the unity between political and military leadership.

On the economic front, the Prime Minister stressed that Pakistan is moving toward debt relief, investment-led growth, and reduced dependency on loans. He assured that the government is introducing policies to attract investment and place Pakistan on a path of sustainable development.

Reiterating Pakistan’s commitment to regional peace, Shehbaz Sharif emphasized the importance of dialogue with India, particularly on the Kashmir issue, and condemned Israel’s military actions in Gaza, calling for the Muslim Ummah to take an active role in restoring peace in the Middle East.

Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar highlighted the critical role of overseas Pakistanis as a bridge between Pakistan and the United Kingdom, recalling that when the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) government took office in 2022, the country faced a financial crisis. Through reforms and fiscal discipline, the economy has stabilized, with inflation and interest rates showing signs of decline.

Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif described the diaspora’s remittances as a “lifeline” for Pakistan’s economy and lauded the historic military success in Marka-e-Haq. Minister for Overseas Pakistanis Chaudhry Salik Hussain echoed these sentiments, calling expatriates one of Pakistan’s greatest assets and highlighting that recent achievements, including the Pakistan-Saudi Arabia defense agreement, have strengthened the nation’s global standing.

Overall, the Prime Minister emphasized that Pakistan’s economic and diplomatic progress reflects the combined efforts of the leadership and the unwavering support of its overseas community.
