KARACHI: The Pakistani Rupee (PKR) registered a mild gain against the US Dollar during Thursday’s interbank session, appreciating by 11 paisa or 0.04%, as per data released by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP). The day closed with the PKR at 282.56 per USD, compared to the previous closing of 282.67.
In intraday trading, the dollar traded between a high bid of 283.50 and a low ask of 285.15, indicating relative stability in the forex market.
In the open market, exchange companies quoted the greenback at 284.35 for buying and 285.15 for selling.
On the flip side, the PKR lost ground against most major currencies:
- Euro: Down Rs. 3.15 (0.96%) to 330.31
- British Pound: Down Rs. 2.43 (0.65%) to 377.99
- Swiss Franc: Down Rs. 1.81 (0.52%) to 351.22
- Japanese Yen: Down 1.30 paisa (0.68%) to 1.9256
- Chinese Yuan: Down 5.12 paisa (0.13%) to 39.37
However, modest gains were seen against Gulf currencies:
- Saudi Riyal: Up 3.95 paisa (0.05%) to 75.29
- UAE Dirham: Up 3.12 paisa (0.04%) to 76.93
So far in FY25, the PKR has appreciated by Rs. 1.21 or 0.43% against the USD, but it remains down by Rs. 4.01 or 1.42% on a calendar year basis.
In the money market, the 6-month KIBOR eased slightly, with bid and offer rates dropping by 3bps to 10.79% and 11.04%, respectively.
