Pakistan’s Power Generation Rises 8% YoY in August, Hydel Leads Mix
Power generation in Pakistan reached 14,218 GWh in August 2025, marking an 8% year-on-year increase from 13,180 GWh in August 2024, reflecting higher demand driven by rising temperatures and increased coal-based output.
On a monthly basis, generation grew by 1%, up from 14,123 GWh in July. For the first two months of FY26, total generation stood at 28,341 GWh, slightly higher than 28,060 GWh recorded in the same period last year.
The average cost of power generation rose 3% YoY to Rs7.7/KWh in August, though it eased 1% compared to July 2025’s Rs7.8/KWh.
Hydel dominated the generation mix with a 38.8% share, followed by RLNG at 15.3% and nuclear at 15.1%. Renewables contributed modestly, with wind at 3.6% and solar at 0.7%.
