The Kremlin on Thursday confirmed that U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin will meet in the “coming days,” with both sides having agreed on a venue “in principle.” This anticipated summit marks the first high-level engagement between the two nations since 2021.

Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov stated that the meeting was proposed by the U.S. and both parties are now working out the logistics. The summit comes amid Trump’s efforts to broker a peace deal in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict.

Trump had earlier indicated the possibility of a face-to-face meeting “very soon,” while Ukraine’s President Zelensky renewed his call for direct talks with Putin to pursue a peace path. Despite international pressure, Moscow has not yet responded to a trilateral meeting request.

As the war in Ukraine continues to escalate with no formal ceasefire in sight, the summit raises global hopes for a diplomatic breakthrough.
