Rupee Posts Sixth Consecutive Gain Against US Dollar

KARACHI, August 15, 2025:

The Pakistani rupee extended its winning streak for the sixth straight session on Friday, closing stronger against the US dollar in the inter-bank market. The local currency appreciated by Re0.16 or 0.06%, settling at 282.06 compared to Wednesday’s close of 282.22.

Currency trading resumed after Thursday’s Independence Day holiday, with improved market sentiment driven by continued enforcement action against illegal currency dealers and smugglers, helping bolster the rupee’s performance.

In the global market, the US dollar held firm after higher-than-expected US inflation data led traders to reassess expectations of a near-term rate cut by the Federal Reserve. The euro and British pound remained steady after earlier losses, while the Japanese yen strengthened 0.3% on the back of upbeat GDP data.

Oil prices — a key factor influencing currency valuations — retreated amid concerns over fuel demand following weak economic indicators from the US and China. Brent crude fell 0.58% to $66.45 per barrel, while WTI dipped 0.66% to $63.54.
