Thatta Cement Company Limited has approved the development of an additional 7.5 MW wind power project, increasing its total renewable energy capacity to 17.3 MW, the company disclosed to the Pakistan Stock Exchange on Wednesday.
The board’s decision follows the successful commissioning of a 4.8 MW wind power project, complementing the company’s existing 5 MW solar facility. With the new installation, Thatta Cement’s renewable energy portfolio will comprise two wind projects totaling 12.3 MW alongside the solar plant.
The company stated that the expansion aims to increase the share of renewable energy in its overall power mix, reinforce its commitment to sustainable practices, and deliver long-term cost savings. The project is also expected to enhance energy security for operations while reducing emissions as part of Thatta Cement’s broader sustainability strategy.
Incorporated in 1980, Thatta Cement primarily engages in the manufacturing and marketing of cement and holds a shareholding in Thatta Power (Private) Limited.
